  1. Most of the GTA’s growth has occurred since the end of World War II. With the exception of the area just east and west of Yonge Street between Eglinton and Yonge Blvd (the old City Limit) most of the area north of Eglinton was rural until the 1940s. The gaping “Forks of the Don” in the east stalled road, residential and business development until well into the 1950s.
